Quick Study - Reflected Forest

I played around with the "pinkness" of the sky until I came upon this colour.  I used just a small section of a photo for my reference.

Graceful Tree

Graceful Tree
Acrylic on canvas 12x16

I was in Peter John Reid's workshop recently and painted this tree.  I used a different brand of paint and approached the painting differently than I usually do.  I'm pretty sure that I snapped this photo at  Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

This painting was done in a class with my first watercolour teacher.  I decided to change up the colour combination from the traditional pinks and reds.

ps - I changed the comment process to hopefully make it easier to post a comment.  Please let me know if it is working.  Thanks V.A.!

Simplified - SOLD

Simplified
Acrylic on canvas 16x20

This summer I spotted two Joseph Plaskett paintings in a gallery window.  Unfortunately, the gallery was closed but I came away inspired and thought I would like to try to eliminate everything but the objects in a painting.

Houseboat

Houseboat
Watercolour doubled matted in white approx. 20x16

After being at the Canadian Watercolour Convention today and coming away totally inspired, I've decided to post some watercolour paintings I did before I started painting with acrylics.  The mat is white even though it reads as grey.  This was done from a photo I took of a houseboat on Toronto island many years ago.

The Arrangement

The Arrangement
Acrylic on canvas 30x20

I set this still life up in my basement and painted most of it in two sittings however one particular item was giving me a workout - it was repainted quite a few times.  I had some good input from Laurie and was able to finish it up this week.  The painting extends a couple inches past the photo on either side.

The Yellow Door

The Yellow Door
Acrylic on canvas 16x20

I nearly finished this piece outdoors at the Good Earth during a workshop this summer with the wonderful and talented Kim Rempel.  The wound up hose caught my attention but I think it turned out to be more about the yellow door which was mostly in shadow.  I took a couple pictures which helped me finish it.

Swan Still Life

Swan Still Life
Acrylic on canvas 16x20

This still life was set up by Laurie Wonfor-Nolan.  It was a workshop she taught a couple years ago on colour.  All the items were either black or white and we had to use a very limited palette of our own choosing.  Even though this is one of my earlier acrylic paintings there is something I like about this one - maybe it is the swan...

This is one of two paintings I did at the Preston Market to promote A Day and A Night in Hespeler on August 25th.  I bought the beats from a vendor and placed them on the ground leaning up against a big maple tree.   I decided not to refine or change anything once I got home.
