I painted this as a warm-up exercise before starting a larger painting.  I put the plate and fruit on the floor about six feet away from me, did a quick sketch and then painted.

I had been thinking about Cezanne's paintings when I put together this composition.  Plus I had just bought the white jug at an antique shop the week before and knew it would go into a painting or two.

One of my earlier posts was of a blue plate and fruit with strong shadow shapes.  This painting has similar light and dark shapes. I had strong afternoon sun coming in the window that day.

This was painted from a photo I took when the sun was streaming through the window and the glass plate was picking up all this incredible fractured light.  Even the fruit was highlighted.  This piece was accepted into a juried show last fall.
