This was a little warm-up painting I did before tackling a larger canvas. I hadn't painted for about a week and felt I needed to try something quick and simple.
A painter friend and I went to our local park to paint. We got a couple hours in but it was so cold and windy that day that we packed up and I finished this one at home.
This painting resulted from a photo I took when I stopped on the side of the road up north to take pictures of the rocks. For some reason, I thought the photo went horizontal not verticle........I changed it part way through the painting process....I'd like to paint a similar scene and tackle the rocks in a totally different way.
I had been thinking about Cezanne's paintings when I put together this composition. Plus I had just bought the white jug at an antique shop the week before and knew it would go into a painting or two.
Last year I took my easel outside into my backyard and painted this. The poppies were just past prime but I couldn't waste the opportunity to paint them.
One of my earlier posts was of a blue plate and fruit with strong shadow shapes. This painting has similar light and dark shapes. I had strong afternoon sun coming in the window that day.
I painted sereval 6x6's of poppies using photographs from my garden. This year's poppies are just about finished. I did manage to get outdoors and paint a couple new canvases and will post them when completed.
I gathered up some random items and started painting this still life. Fresh flowers were wrapped in the brown and mauve patterned paper. It was so nice that I decided to reuse it for this purpose.
